The programme captures our journey to take five retired fire engines and an ambulance across Europe to Serbia, where they are given a new lease of life and purpose. A 1,500-mile, three-day non-stop trip, with vehicles not used to long journeys and some that haven’t been running for a while.
The trip wasn’t without it’s challenges but did show us donating their 50th vehicle since we began our work ten years ago.
There is a massive shortage of fire engines and fire fighting equipment in Eastern Europe, and most of our group have made similar trips to Moldova and Romania – so the Serbia trip was also a reunion for many good friends.
Our team also spent a week training both firemen and volunteers, and with limited time and language barriers with much to learn, which made it an intensive and challenging few days.
